New System Design/Development of an Organ Transplant Information System
TAG
reviews and assesses the overall financial strengths
and weakness of the Transplant Center. We recommend
comprehensive systems including processes and
procedures that ensure all direct and indirect costs
are properly accounted for.
In our experience with organ acquisition cost center auditing, we have found that not all of the cost associated with organ acquisition are reported as either a direct or indirect costs due to the complexity of the Medicare regulations and hospital information technology systems. Our in-depth review process streamlines organ acquisition/transplant service functions (e.g. patient registration, billing, and accounting functions).
We conduct and implement time studies in order to properly allocate pre-transplant and post-transplant services for physicians, nursing staff, and all other pertinent staff functions. Logs to record pre-transplant patients, donors, and other transplant activities are reviewed and if needed, developed or enhanced to support the cost and statistics recorded on behalf of the Medicare/Medicaid Cost report. We complete audits of the various information systems that record patient data to ensure all data elements are being properly captured in a timely and efficient manner.
We also propose an organ acquisition system that ensures all costs of services provided are properly recorded and that all statistical data are properly recorded. Additionally, we provide regulatory guidance as it relates to these processes and procedures.
Our Services Include:Development of an Organ Transplantation
Information System (OTIS):
- Review critical success factors required to run a fully functional transplant information system.
- Development of a transplantation statistical system that will be based on a highly information-dependent database for the appropriate organ specialty. All transplant programs need a well designed software application which will become an indispensable tool for managing transplant patient care and data requirements.
- Organize an Internal Control System which will be appropriate and effective to support the hospital or OPO organ acquisition costs for single and multi-organ Medicare transplant programs.
- Audit Transplant Program accounts for all allowable direct and indirect expenses to ensure the appropriate cost allocations are made to the Medicare Organ Acquisition cost center
